“Pills! Uppers & Downers!” | Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007)
Music Superstar Dewey Cox traverses the road to harder drugs after trying weed, further perpetuating the TOTALLY NOT TRUE notion that marijuana is a gateway drug. These “uppers and downers” are just another exit ramp on his highway to Hell, which looks like a bummer.
Doc Leavey Says: “These are the classic pills of the 50s and 60s. The ‘uppers’ would be amphetamine-type drugs, stimulants which would make one feel activated, energized, and high. The ‘downers’ of the day would be barbiturates or drugs like Seconal or Quaaludes, which bring one down from the high, often into a drug induced stupor.”
