Shockingly successful musician Michael Bolton (no, not the dude from Office Space) performed the anthem before Game 4 of the 2003 American League Championship Series at Fenway Park. When he forgot the words and consulted lyrics written on his hand, he was roundly booed. Whether Red Sox fans were mad that he mangled the anthem or that he flaunted his ability to read, we’ll never know.
Self-made actor and singer Jesse McCartney loves NASCAR so much that in 2009 before the Pepsi 500 he cut out major portions of the anthem so the race could start quicker. Well, that, or he forgot what to sing.
Canadian crooner Caroline Marcil ruined the anthem not once, but twice during an exhibition hockey game in Quebec City between the United States and Canada in 2005. After the second mistake, she bolted the rink to get the lyrics. When she came back, she … well, see for yourself.
During a presidential campaign stop back in 2008, Hillary Clinton’s microphone picked up her attempts at singing along to the anthem. We suspect this was the point at which she lost her shot for the nomination.
