Pope Benedict XVI sent out his first flurry of tweets yesterday. Yep, the 85-year-old leader of the Catholic Church joined Twitter (@Pontifex), and not surprisingly, Vatican groupies the world over responded ecclesiastically enthusiastically. Ben rapidly amassed — get it? — more than 1 million followers after sending his first tweet: “Dear friends, I am pleased to get in touch with you through Twitter. Thank you for your generous response. I bless all of you from my heart.”
Okay, so that wasn’t exactly @robdelaney level tweeting — but His Holiness caught on pretty fast. Check it out for yourself …
