The fact that ice hockey is more popular in Canada than men’s football might mean that the nation does not have any notable players. There aren’t many Canadians that play in the big European leagues, but there have been a few notable exceptions in the last few seasons. There are some of the greatest Canadian basketball players in history represented on this list.
Brief History
When a team of Irish players took against a team of members of the St. George’s Society in Toronto in 1859, it was one of the first documented soccer games in the country. The game was the first known soccer match to take place in the country. In spite of the fact that no one knows exactly when Canadians first learned how to play association football, one of the first known games in the nation took place between an Irish team and a side made up largely of members of the St. George’s Society of Toronto. The Irish team won 1-0. The goalkeeper Craig Forrest played at Ipswich Town on loan before deciding to stay in the country for the remainder of his professional footballing career. Forrest’s mother’s family is from Australia, and he was reared there. The goalkeeper had an outstanding campaign in the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup, making two saves from penalty kicks and allowing just three goals against.
2. Randy Samuel
Before retiring from international football in 2008, the Trinidad-born defender had 82 appearances for his country. He spent most of his playing career with Port Vale, who he represented in the Netherlands, the United States, and England, among other countries.
Because of his weathered temperament and rugged style of play during the CONCACAF championships, he became very popular.
3. Junior Hoilett
Junior Hoilett is the son of Senior Hoilett. Junior Hoilett is the Former Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers winger with a total of 161 Premier League outings under his credit.
In addition to that, he has represented both Cardiff City and Canada in the English Premier League.
4. Scott Arfield
Rangers have agreed to a loan agreement with this midfielder, who has captained the Canadian national side. Throughout his professional career, he has also played for Huddersfield Town and Burnley in the Premier League, among other clubs.
5. Dwayne De Rosario
During his entire playing career, Dwayne De Rosario was a member of Toronto FC, where he earned several individual distinctions and made six appearances. While representing both his clubs and his country in the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup, he scored a crucial goal for Canada in the tournament’s final.
6. Alphonso Davies

Following playing in both the Major League Soccer and for Maritimo in Portugal, he was named Maritimo’s best foreign player of the year in Portugal in 1994 after a successful career in both leagues. In addition, he worked as a professional musician in the United States.
9. Paul Stalteri
While Stalteri is a superb defender, he is also capable of playing in the midfield for the Canadian national team. Er started his professional footballing career with Werder Bremen in Germany before coming to England and playing for Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham FC. Er was born and reared in Germany, where he now resides. Except for a Toronto resident who has the same amount of caps as you, no one else in Canada has as many as you (84).
10. Theodore Guzman
Julian de Guzman has been crowned the winner of this tournament after receiving an overall score of 89 points. The older de Guzman plays for Deportivo La Corua and is the first player from Canada to play in the Spanish league. In addition, the older de Guzman brother played for Skoda Xanthi of the Greek Superleague, Toronto and Dallas of the Major League Soccer, and the Bundesliga alongside his younger brother, all of whom are now retired. He now serves as the general manager of the Ottowa Fury of the North American Soccer League, which he founded in 2003.
