U.S. v. THE TALIBAN | AFGHAN CIVIL WAR (2001-ever)
Responding to the September 11th terror attacks, Congress authorized the use of force in the most worn-torn place on earth to root out those responsible. A month after 9/11, the U.S. launched Operation Enduring Freedom, busting up Taliban rule by December.
Encountering many of the problems experienced by the Soviets during their occupation of Afghanistan, the coalition’s quick work of the Taliban begat an insurgency that has lasted over a decade. One-eyed mullahs and other Taliban initially overwhelmed by the offensive fled to neighboring Pakistan to regroup and are still shaking their hooks at us today.
