ALLIES v. CENTRAL POWERS | WORLD WAR I (1914-1918)
Drawn into the war by unrestricted German U-boat attacks off the East Coast, the U.S. entered the conflict in its third year like a back-up quarterback coming in off the bench. The influx of American troops and material aid roused beleaguered Allied Forces in time for the Spring and 100 Days Offensives, helping turn the tide against Germany.
A year and a half later, armistices were signed, guilt was accepted, borders were redrawn and reparations were paid. It truly was, as President Woodrow Wilson stated it, “The war to end war.”
