#5. Panda Express: Computerized since the 1980s
Peggy Cherng, one of the founders of Panda, was an engineer who received her B.S. in applied mathematics, an M.S. in computer science, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. She worked for 3M and McDonnall Douglas on simulators for the U.S. Navy. In short, she’s way smarter than you are, dummy. With this loft job history, Cherng introduced the “point of sale” system to Panda Express. The system, which requires staff to punch meal orders on a computer, makes Panda Express one of the first fast food restaurants to streamline its restaurant operations with computers.
