The Abs Diet
The Gist: Written by the editor of Men’s Health, this six-week plan to “flatten your stomach” has become a huge best-selling book/DVD. It advocates avoiding saturated fats and eating more of 12 recommended “power foods” (whole grains, berries, veggies), and working out with focus on building your abdominal muscles. And subscribing to Men’s Health. (Just kidding.) Many people who’ve tried it report some noticeable weight loss within the first three weeks.
Pros: No point-counting, strict portion control or supplements required. And you get a “cheat” meal if you need it. If you stick to the plan, you’ll likely feel and see a reduction in overall body weight and fat.
Cons: Some people have trouble sticking to it after the first few weeks, as regular exercise — specifically strength training — is required. A visible six-pack is not guaranteed, so don’t let that get you down.
