#4. RESHAPE THE WAY YOU VIEW THE TASK
It’s about readopting the old “I think I can … ” mentality. Basically, if you don’t believe you can get a task done, you won’t. “What happens to many of us is that we get stuck in thinking traps, or ways of thinking that leave us no way out or forward,” says Bruce. “If you think, ‘This project is too hard. I’ll never get it done,’ you may be a magnifier and minimizer, making the more challenging aspects of a job way worse, and minimizing the benefits, both of which kill your motivation.”
Be realistic about your odds of success. Unless you’re trying to build an Iron Man suit, odds are you can get it done if you put in enough time, money, and effort.
#5. OFFER YOURSELF A REWARD
Instead of beating yourself at the possibility of falling short of your goal, offer yourself a reward for following through. “Tell yourself that doing something, anything, will yield a reward — later,” suggests Bruce. “Think of it as procrastinating the fun stuff.”
