#3. COMPLIMENT YOUR BLAZER OR SHIRT
Your tie should be harmonious with your button-down shirt, slacks, and blazer. The objective, says Sigala, is not to distract from your clothing, but add to their appeal. “Have a solid shirt? Try a patterned tie,” he recommends. “A patterned shirt? Try a solid tie. When you get comfortable with that, you can try mixing up patterns. Unless you’re comfortable with bold colors, stick to blue, black, and gray jackets and blazers.”
Sigala also suggests experimenting with textures like brushed wool knit to change up the look and feel. “When it comes to working the shoes into the outfit … keep it simple and stick to brown or black.” If you feel like getting wild, work your way up to navy blue or burgundy shoes.
#4. USE A TIE BAR
A tie bar can add class and sophistication to your look. “It’s my favorite tie accessory,” Sigala admits. “It’s perfect for making any guy look that much sharper, no matter the size. It’s subtle, but people always seem to notice it.”
Sigala suggests keeping the tie bar narrower than the actual tie, and it should be placed directly below the chest line.
