Smartphones Can Damage The Eyes
A few years back opticians studied the ways certain wavelengths of light emitted by phone and tablet screens were “potentially hazardous and toxic to the back of the eye.” Most of the light we see — sun, lamps or electronic devices — has all frequencies of light, and the blue-violet frequency is present in handheld electronic device screens.
The study found that over-exposure to the blue-violet light can increase macular degeneration, and that may cause blindness. It’s not always the case, but it’s also why opticians recommend that for every 20 minutes you look at a screen, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away.
