PDA strokes our egos because it allows us to nonverbally brag to our friends — and, just as importantly, our frenemies — that our relationship is just sooooo great. And because it’s a form of “marking our territory,” it makes us confident that you’re into us and only us. When a woman is confident, she’s: A) Less inclined to get jealous*, so she won’t flip out if she spots you chatting with another female. B) More laid back. “Oh! You bought a round but forgot to ask me what I wanted? No worries.” And C) Likely to be more adventurous and open to do those things you’ve been trying to get her to do in bed. Basically, a confident girlfriend/wife is the girlfriend/wife you want. And all it takes is putting your arm around her at Chili’s now and then.
